Just stumbled across this new game that looks incredibly fun. I don’t think it’s released yet. But I thought I’d point it out to folks. The artwork/design is really cool, using detailed grayscale imagery and silouhettes. Very cool. I will review it when it’s released.

Monster Basement - Game Review

  • Type: Point-And-Click Escape Adventure
  • Difficulty: Medium
  • Replay Value: None
  • Controls: Mouse
Object: Escape from the Monster Basement.
Review: This point-and-click adventure with a horror monster theme plays nicely. It doesn’t last very long, but has a few challenges and some well-hidden objects which will keep you clicking away for a few hours. With bloody axes, chemical labs, haunted portraits, meat hooks, and monsters in the corners, this game does provide a thrilling atmosphere for an adventure.

As in most games of this genre, you move about the room and click on objects to either collect them for further use, or examine them to find secrets. Some objects combine to create larger objects and you will even have to make a few phone calls to get through the adventure (in the game).

It’s not all passive clicking either, there are a few occasions where you have to act quickly to avoid dangerous things (like, um, monsters maybe?).

I found the game plays pretty well, but sometimes trying to click on certain objects (like the floor) end up moving you to another view of the room which didn’t always seem like the action I wanted to take, but that is a minor gripe. My biggest complaint is that it didn’t last a little longer. For those who have trouble (as I did in places) you can find a complete walk through taped to the front door of the basement.

Crazy Cube - Game Review

  • Type: Progressive Puzzler
  • Difficulty: Medium
  • Replay: Good
  • Controls: Mouse
Object: Connect same colored start and end points on a large 3-D cube.
Review: I really enjoyed this game. You start with a 3-Dimensional cube that looks similar to a Rubik’s Cube. The game only shows you three sides of the cube so don’t worry about the back. On the cube you will find sets of colored squares with a black spot in the middle. All you have to do is connect each of the sets of squares with a single unbroken path around the cube.

In order to accomplish this task, you must map out pathways so they don’t intersect with other pathways and you must use every gray square on the cube in a path. You will often have several different options available. Sometimes you will complete all the paths and still have gray squares left, in which case you can connect them to any path they are adjacent to.

This game as a slick interface. The cube moves nicely with your mouse and you have a reset button if you get totally on the wrong path. The inventive concept for the game, though not entirely original, provides a lot of fun.
